Amazon is reportedly considering spinning off AI chips from Nvidia Grace Blackwell, valued at approximately $8 billion, into a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and then leasing them back. These chips are strategically deployed across more than ten data centers situated in five different U.S. states. The SPV is anticipated to secure an investment-grade credit rating, thereby enabling it to attract funds from external investors through the sale of shares and the issuance of bonds. This strategic maneuver will enable Amazon to mitigate the debt burdens stemming from its significant investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and transition towards a more asset-light operational model.
Furthermore, Broadcom is in the process of raising $60 billion to finance chip acquisitions for companies like Anthropic. Jensen Huang has dismissed doubts concerning round-trip financing, emphasizing that the AI industry necessitates substantial funding and that Nvidia's investments are associated with minimal risks.
