On April 24th, a report shed light on how intellectual property rights can be safeguarded in emerging domains, including AI-generated content and chip layout designs. At a press conference convened by the State Council Information Office on the same day, Guo Wen, the Director of the Intellectual Property Protection Department at the National Intellectual Property Administration, announced the establishment of a 'protection network' for innovation in these burgeoning fields. This network will be developed across three key dimensions: systems, services, and application.

Guo Wen elaborated that the National Intellectual Property Administration has refined its patent examination policies, offering a variety of avenues such as priority and accelerated reviews. To date, a cumulative total of 890 goods and service items pertaining to new industries and formats, including big data and artificial intelligence, have been publicly announced. This move addresses challenges such as the absence of corresponding items for trademark registration and the ambiguity surrounding protection boundaries in these nascent fields.

Furthermore, 82 national-level intellectual property protection centers have been set up nationwide, encompassing cutting-edge directions and pivotal areas like artificial intelligence and integrated circuits. These centers are designed to cater to the 'expedited protection' demands of innovative entities, ensuring swift and effective safeguarding of their intellectual property.
