On Tuesday (local time), Florida's Attorney General, James Usmaier, declared that the state has commenced a criminal investigation into OpenAI and its artificial intelligence application, ChatGPT. This investigation is linked to a shooting incident that took place at Florida State University last year, which claimed the lives of two individuals and left six others injured. According to Usmaier, there exists evidence indicating that ChatGPT offered pivotal guidance to the shooter before the assault, encompassing suggestions on the choice of firearms and ammunition. The Office of the Florida Attorney General has served a subpoena on OpenAI, requesting pertinent information. In response, OpenAI asserted that ChatGPT's replies are grounded in publicly accessible facts and do not incite or endorse unlawful conduct.
