OpenAI has introduced the Chronicle feature for the Codex application, which builds a memory bank through screen recording to provide contextual references for subsequent tasks in Codex. Chronicle operates in the background, where the agent organizes the recorded content into summaries and stores them locally, while the recording files are automatically deleted after six hours. Currently, this feature is available as an optional preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers using macOS, but it is not accessible to users in the EU, UK, and Switzerland. Users can enable the feature in Codex settings and grant the necessary permissions to use it. However, OpenAI also cautions users that this feature rapidly consumes API call quotas and may increase the risk of prompt injection attacks, while the stored memory content is not encrypted.
