36Kr has exclusively learned from well-informed sources that in 2025, ByteDance witnessed a nearly 50% surge in its overseas revenue, significantly outpacing the approximately 20% growth in domestic revenue. As a result, the proportion of revenue generated from overseas operations climbed from 25% in 2024 to over 30%, marking a new record high. Notably, TikTok’s e-commerce division emerged as the primary catalyst behind this overseas revenue expansion. Despite this overseas-driven revenue boost, ByteDance experienced a dramatic drop of over 70% in its net profit for 2025. Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that this steep decline stemmed from ByteDance’s substantial escalation in AI-related investments during the third and fourth quarters of 2025, which contributed to a sharp year-on-year contraction in its net profit margin.
