On April 7, AXIOS reported that Meta Platforms is preparing to release its first batch of brand-new AI models developed under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, with plans to eventually offer these models under an open-source license. Prior to the release, Meta intends to keep some technologies proprietary to ensure no new security risks are introduced. Alexandr Wang noted that Anthropic and OpenAI are increasingly focusing on providing model services to governments and enterprises, whereas Meta is more focused on the consumer market, aiming to make the models widely accessible globally. Although Meta acknowledges that the new models may not match the overall performance of new products from other labs, it believes they possess unique advantages in certain areas that will appeal to consumers. Additionally, Meta will not fully revert to its early open model.
