Since OpenClaw achieved tremendous success, controversies have kept arising. Recently, Google initiated the first move against OpenClaw. Warren Mohan, an engineer at Google DeepMind and former CEO of Windsurf, voiced his concerns on social media. He stated that Google had identified extensive malicious exploitation of the backend of its AI programming tool, Antigravity. This exploitation substantially deteriorated the quality of service for regular users. All these users were utilizing the OpenClaw tool, employing the Antigravity backend as a proxy to gain access to Google's Gemini model services, thereby creating computational loads that far surpassed expectations. Consequently, Google had to terminate access for these users to safeguard the experience of others.

Google's ban is specifically aimed at the Antigravity service and has no bearing on other Google services. The company also mentioned that it would offer a means for users who were unaware of the issue to regain access. The fundamental cause (youyin, which can be translated as "cause" or "inducement") of this conflict lies in the fact that the founder of OpenClaw joined OpenAI, positioning the project within the realm of Google's competitors. Google's action is perceived as an effort to prevent its rival from accessing its Gemini models at a low cost. In response, the founder of OpenClaw declared that future versions would eliminate support for Google's architecture.
