According to TechCrunch, Meta's Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, announced in an internal memo on Wednesday that the company would cut approximately 600 positions from its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Lab. The move aims to streamline decision-making processes and enhance the scope of responsibilities and impact of team members. The layoffs affect Facebook's AI Research (FAIR) department, product-related AI teams, and AI infrastructure teams, while the newly established TBD Lab remains unaffected. Meta will provide laid-off employees with 16 weeks of severance pay and encourage them to apply for other positions within the company.
