On October 23, Jean-Claude Trichet, who serves as the Chairman of the International Advisory Council for the 2025 Bund Summit, held the presidency of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques in 2023, and is the former President of the European Central Bank, made a statement during his speech. He pointed out that the swift advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) serves as a stark reminder of how unpredictable technology can be.
He brought up the 'Solow Paradox'—a scenario where substantial investments in mainframe computers did not lead to the expected boost in productivity—and said that the chance of AI falling into a similar trap can't be written off. Converting AI's potential into tangible productivity improvements might require more time than anticipated. Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of conducting a thorough assessment of AI's advantages and drawbacks.
