Spotify has partnered up with Universal Music Group (UMG) to deliver a new AI-powered experience on the platform that will allow subscribers to remix songs and create music covers.
The feature is exclusively available to Premium users who will be asked to pay extra for the new generative AI tool.
Spotify announced its new partnership with Universal Music Group, which brings in a massive "landmark recorded music and music publishing licensing agreement" that allows the streaming platform to offer a new AI-powered tool.
Under this generative AI tool, users may now allow fans to create brand-new covers and remixes of their favorite songs.
The songs that will be part of the experience will be from participating artists and songwriters, so it means that they have consented to their music being tweaked by AI under this experience.
This also means that artists under the UMG label who have consented for their work to be used via the tool would have their songs featured under this feature.
According to Spotify, the feature will be accessible exclusively to Premium subscribers but will require an additional fee to pay.
This latest feature on Spotify adds to the various AI features on the platform, which is the new focus of the company for paid subscribers to enjoy.
Two years ago, Spotify began testing the AI-generated playlist creator, which was later officially named the "Prompted Playlists" feature that allows Premium users to tell the AI to create a collection of songs for them based on certain themes.
The AI will decide for the user based on their listening habits, preferred artists, and more to create this tailored playlist for them.
There was also the introduction of AI-powered DJs on Spotify, which emulated the live radio station experience on the platform, paired with a dedicated disk jockey to host for users. This feature recently expanded to offer more AI-powered DJ voices, personas, and languages to more regions.
