On April 3, the Wall Street Journal reported that German automaker Volkswagen will impose an "import surcharge" on cars impacted by the 25% tariff imposed by U.S. President Trump. In response, Volkswagen has halted rail transportation from Mexico and is holding vehicles arriving from Europe at ports. According to analysis, Trump's tariffs are anticipated to affect over $460 billion worth of annual imports of cars and auto parts. Volkswagen has informed its dealers that it will provide further details on pricing strategies for tariff-affected vehicles by mid-April and intends to commence distribution of these cars to dealerships by the end of the month.
