On September 18, in response to media reports indicating that the EU expects China to voluntarily restrict its hybrid vehicle exports to Europe—or else face steeper tariffs—China acknowledged awareness of these reports. China emphasized that such so-called voluntary export restraints not only constitute a serious breach of World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations but also run counter to the fundamental principles of a market economy and fair competition. China firmly opposes these measures. China's stance remains unwavering: any resolution between China and the EU must strike a balance of interests, adhere to WTO rules and the respective domestic laws of both parties, and fully safeguard the interests of industries on both sides.
