On June 4, figures released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) indicated that the passenger car market witnessed sales of 1.368 million units in April, marking a 19.4% decrease compared to the same period last year and a 7.0% decline from the previous month. Within this context, the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment posted sales of approximately 817,000 units, experiencing a 6.2% year-on-year decrease but a 2.4% sequential increase. NEVs accounted for 59.7% of the total passenger car sales, reflecting an 8.4 percentage point surge from the previous year.
Breaking down the segments, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached around 571,000 units, showing a 3.9% year-on-year growth and a 2.4% month-on-month increase. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) sales stood at approximately 246,000 units, experiencing a 23.5% year-on-year decrease but a 2.4% sequential rise. Furthermore, projections suggest that cumulative sales of new energy vehicles will reach 2.61 million units by 2026, representing an 18.4% year-on-year decrease.
