BYD has issued a response to online rumors alleging that it had been "summoned for consultation and placed under investigation," categorically denying these assertions as false and lacking any factual basis. The company explicitly stated that it has not received any notification regarding such consultations, nor has it been the subject of an official investigation.
Certain online entities have been maliciously disseminating false information, prompting BYD to collect evidence and initiate legal proceedings against those involved. These rumors are connected to regulatory actions prompted by OTA (Over-the-Air) remote "battery locking" issues within the new energy vehicle sector.
In March 2026, complaints filed on the national 12315 consumer complaint platform surged by 273% compared to the previous year. This spike led the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in conjunction with the State Administration for Market Regulation, to jointly summon eight automakers for consultations and launch investigations into three of them. However, the specific automakers under investigation were not disclosed.
Some social media accounts have exploited AI technology to maliciously amplify the situation, creating fabricated lists that falsely implicate BYD and other automakers. In response, companies such as XPeng, Tesla, Zeekr, and Li Auto have also issued statements denying these rumors.
BYD urges the public to refrain from believing or spreading unverified information and has commenced legal proceedings to safeguard its rights and reputation.
