On May 9, reports surfaced indicating that several automakers have faced a surge in customer complaints related to locked battery capacity issues, prompting regulatory scrutiny. According to these reports, eight automakers were interviewed by regulators, with three being formally investigated for regulatory violations, and two withdrawing controversial software upgrade packages while pledging to restore vehicle performance. Subsequently, an AI-generated message circulating online listed the names of these eight automakers.
Today, reporters reached out to BYD, Tesla, Xiaopeng, Li Auto, NIO, Seres AITO, Geely Zeekr, and GAC Aion for confirmation. Among them, BYD, Tesla, Xiaopeng, Li Auto, and GAC Aion explicitly refuted the rumors.
A Tesla spokesperson clarified that the company has not been interviewed by regulators regarding locked battery capacity concerns, emphasizing that all software updates undergo rigorous testing and are duly recorded. Xiaopeng Group's Legal Department issued a statement denying receipt of any such "interview" and refuting claims of being formally investigated. Li Auto also dismissed the news as false, stating that it has not faced regulatory interviews over locked battery capacity issues.
BYD officially issued a statement declaring that online rumors about "BYD being interviewed and formally investigated" are entirely baseless. Similarly, GAC Aion released an official statement denying the dissemination of such false information.
