Honda has encountered significant setbacks in its ambitious foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market. The company has ultimately abandoned plans for several models, including the Acura RSX and Afeela 1, at the eleventh hour, incurring losses amounting to a staggering 2.5 trillion yen (approximately RMB 108.73 billion). In a bid to rein in costs, Honda has opted to prolong the product lifespan of several of its well-received models. For instance, the introduction of the next-generation Odyssey MPV has been pushed back by a minimum of three years, now slated for March 2030. Similarly, the current iteration of the Accord will continue to roll off the production lines until March 2030, while the HR-V will remain in production for at least an additional two years, with the possibility of a fourth-generation model making its debut in 2032.
The Acura brand, too, is grappling with challenges. Honda has extended the production and sales cycles of the current Integra and MDX models. The Integra is set to remain on sale until at least March 2032, while the launch of the next-generation MDX has been delayed until early 2031. A spokesperson from Honda has verified the authenticity of the relevant memorandum and expressed optimism regarding the company's future product strategy, emphasizing a steadfast commitment to advancing hybrid technology.
