On April 11, the High-Level Forum on the Development of Intelligent Electric Vehicles (slated for 2026) convened. Su Bo, Deputy Director of the Strategic Advisory Committee for Fostering a Global Manufacturing Powerhouse and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), emphasized that the "15th Five-Year Plan" period marks a pivotal juncture for China's transformation from a major automotive producer to a preeminent global automotive powerhouse. He underscored that during this era, new energy vehicles (NEVs) are poised to play a pivotal role in fulfilling national objectives, including bolstering manufacturing prowess, advancing technological innovation, enhancing transportation capabilities, and achieving the "dual carbon" targets (carbon peak and carbon neutrality). Projections indicate that by 2030, NEVs will emerge as the mainstream choice in the automotive market, with a domestic market penetration rate exceeding 70%. Furthermore, Su Bo suggested that China has the potential to realize its ambition of becoming a global NEV leader ahead of schedule, potentially by the conclusion of the "15th Five-Year Plan" period.
