On April 3, 2026, Ponz Pandikuthira, the Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer of Nissan North America, made a significant announcement at the New York Auto Show. He confirmed that Nissan would introduce the next-generation GT-R R36 prior to 2030. This new model will incorporate a hybrid powertrain, yet it will maintain the core of the VR38 engine. The current R35 GT-R is set to end its impressive 18-year production run in 2025. The R36 will be built on an entirely new platform, boasting an anticipated total power output surpassing 700 horsepower and an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h that will place it among the elite 2.5-second club. Furthermore, the R36 will feature enhancements to its torque vectoring control system, digital cockpit, and intelligent driving assistance capabilities. More official details are slated to be released in 2028.
