Amidst the swift evolution of intelligent driving technology, Level 2 (L2) assisted driving is steadily making way for Level 3 (L3) conditional autonomous driving. On December 15, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially unveiled the inaugural batch of access permits for L3 conditional autonomous driving vehicle models in China. The Changan-branded SC7000AAARBEV all-electric sedan (also known as the Changan Deepal SL03) and the Arcfox-branded BJ7001A61NBEV all-electric sedan (dubbed the BAIC Arcfox Alpha S6) were among the fortunate selections. The Changan Deepal SL03 is capable of autonomous driving within a single lane on highways and urban expressways amidst traffic congestion, boasting a top speed of 50 km/h. Presently, this functionality is confined to specific road segments, encompassing Chongqing's Inner Ring Expressway, New Inner Ring Expressway (spanning from Gaotanyan Interchange to Laijiaqiao Interchange), and Yudu Avenue (extending from Renhe Interchange to Airport Interchange). Similarly, the Arcfox Alpha S6 can achieve autonomous driving within a single lane on highways and urban expressways, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The road sections where this feature can be activated include Beijing's Jingtai Expressway (stretching from Jiugongxin Bridge in Daxing District to Airport North Line Expressway), Airport North Line Expressway (from Daqu South Bridge to Daxing Airport Expressway), and Daxing Airport Expressway (spanning from South 6th Ring Road to Airport North Line Expressway). Leveraging its proprietary 'Tianshu Intelligent' technology framework, Changan Automobile has amassed invaluable experience in the design, research and development, as well as testing and validation of L3 autonomous driving. It incorporates a seven-fold redundant architecture and five-fold perception fusion technology to guarantee system safety and manageability. This endorsement signifies a pivotal milestone for China's L3 autonomous driving to progress from the testing phase to commercial deployment. Changan Automobile anticipates commencing road trial operations in the first quarter of 2026 and will progressively broaden the applicable scenarios to furnish users with a more all-encompassing high-level autonomous driving experience.
