Recently, a netizen shared a post on a short video platform, revealing that their Midea smart washing machine had consumed 411.52 MB of data within a span of 19 hours, 40 minutes, and 5 seconds after connecting to Wi-Fi. This revelation has sparked widespread concerns among netizens regarding potential privacy breaches associated with smart home appliances.

On September 10th, Midea's Washing Machine Division issued a response, clarifying that after thorough verification, the smart washing machine does not engage in extensive data transmission activities. The volume of data transmitted per wash cycle is merely 100-200 KB, which is solely utilized for essential functions such as smart control. The company emphasized that it does not collect or upload any personal information of users, and the entire data transmission process is encrypted, adhering strictly to national regulations.

Furthermore, Midea has reached out to the user in question to arrange for an on-site investigation aimed at identifying the root cause of the abnormal data consumption.
