In the second quarter of 2026, iPhone shipments in India soared to 3.45 million units, securing India's position as Apple's fourth-largest global market. This volume accounted for 6.25% of total global iPhone shipments, while capturing a 10% share of the local smartphone market. During the same period, the United States maintained its lead with 17.61 million units shipped, representing 31.9% of the global total. China followed closely with 12.43 million units, and Japan ranked third with 4.50 million units. Industry analysts suggest that India's immediate ambition is to overtake Japan and break into the top three global iPhone markets. However, Omdia forecasts that while India may see periodic surges in shipments, it is unlikely to surpass Japan within the next three to four years. The Indian market's role in Apple's global strategy is steadily expanding, fueled by local consumption upgrades and Apple's localized production initiatives. Nevertheless, persistent challenges, including infrastructure gaps and variations in consumer purchasing power, continue to hinder its broader growth potential.
