Microsoft has been experimenting with a functionality in the Windows 11 preview edition that allows users to pause updates indefinitely. In prior iterations, users were limited to a maximum pause period of five weeks, after which the system would compel an update check. The latest version introduces a calendar control feature, enabling users to specify a precise date to halt updates, with a single pause period extending up to 35 days. This pause can be manually prolonged prior to its expiration, effectively facilitating an indefinite suspension. Throughout this pause, the system refrains from enforcing update installations or computer restarts, thereby granting users greater autonomy over the timing of updates. Furthermore, Microsoft has implemented enhancements, including a streamlined power menu, the incorporation of an 'Update Later' option during the installation process, and heightened transparency regarding update contents. These measures are designed to transition the update experience from being system-centric to user-centric.
