The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has rolled out fresh regulations that forbid the importation of all newly manufactured foreign consumer-grade routers. Furthermore, the scope of the ban has been extended to encompass portable Wi-Fi devices, mobile hotspot gadgets, and residential LTE/5G Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) access devices. This decision implies that new foreign-produced devices enabling home network access through SIM cards will be subjected to stringent import limitations. Nevertheless, the prohibition does not extend to smartphones equipped with hotspot capabilities or enterprise-level equipment. Additionally, existing older models remain available for sale. Industry specialists highlight that the primary objective of this action is to curb the market influence exerted by Chinese router manufacturers and to foster the de-sinicization of the supply chain within the consumer hardware domain.
