Agricultural drones have become indispensable tools in modern farming, yet their operation demands strict adherence to safety protocols. A recent case published on China Judgments Online sheds light on a tragic incident involving Liu Peng, an agricultural drone operator from Qiyang City, Yongzhou, Hunan Province. During his operations, Liu neglected to establish a safety warning perimeter or assign a dedicated safety officer. Moreover, when the drone's system alerted him to verify the surrounding area's safety before landing, he disregarded the warning and proceeded with the landing without confirmation. This reckless action led to a fatal accident where a motorcycle passenger, surnamed Huang, was struck in the head by the drone's propeller and succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts. The Qiyang City People's Court found Liu Peng guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced him to one year and six months in prison, suspended for two years.
