On March 23, 2026, Liu Jingkang, the visionary founder of Insta360, released a statement in direct response to DJI's legal action concerning patent ownership disputes. Liu clarified that DJI contends that patents developed by former employees within a year of their departure should rightfully belong to DJI. Nevertheless, following a thorough internal investigation, Insta360 has confirmed that the patents in question are entirely original innovations conceived and developed in-house.

To illustrate, Liu highlighted that the drone's innovative one-click 'skyscraper escape flight' feature was conceived based on his own unique idea. He underscored that certain patents have yet to be put into practical use due to regulatory constraints, and he even expressed a willingness to generously donate this patented feature to DJI.

Furthermore, Liu shed light on the common practice in China of omitting inventors' names from patent applications, explaining that this measure is implemented to shield technical experts from the nuisance of headhunter approaches. He emphasized that this practice is uniformly applied to all employees, regardless of their previous affiliation with DJI. Liu also pointed out that the majority of the disputed patents were filed 4-5 years ago and have since been rendered obsolete due to shifts in product strategy and definition.

Liu Jingkang reiterated his unwavering respect for intellectual property rights, while also emphasizing his commitment to facts, legal processes, and court rulings. He confidently stated that he is unafraid of any patent litigation that may arise. At present, his primary focus remains steadfast on the research and development of 7-8 new products slated for release in 2026.
