The relentless surge in memory chip prices is exerting a significant influence on the cost composition of smartphone bills of materials (BOM). Forecasts indicate that by the first quarter of 2026, DRAM and NAND flash memory prices will have escalated by more than 50% and 90%, respectively, compared to the preceding quarter. This price hike will directly translate into a BOM cost increase of over 20% for budget smartphones. While manufacturers are striving to mitigate costs by simplifying hardware configurations and optimizing product lines, the additional expenses will inevitably be transferred to consumers. As a result, a hike in smartphone retail prices is set to occur in 2026, with low-end models likely to see an increase of around $30, and high-end flagship models possibly rising by $150 to $200.
