Apple's soon-to-be-released HomePod mini 2 won't be equipped with its self-developed N1 wireless network chip. Instead, it will persist in utilizing MediaTek's communication module. In the macOS kernel debugging toolkit, the internal code pertaining to the HomePod mini 2 reveals that it employs 'Sunrise' (the codename assigned to MediaTek's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips), as opposed to 'Centauri' (the codename for the N1 chip). This strongly implies that the HomePod mini 2 will keep depending on a third-party solution.

The N1 chip, which made its debut in the iPhone 17 series, boasts several benefits, notably its low power consumption. Mark Gurman had earlier forecasted that numerous Apple devices would incorporate this chip. However, it seems that Apple might give priority to using it in its high-end product lines. Meanwhile, entry-level devices are expected to continue relying on MediaTek's solutions as a cost-control measure. Furthermore, the iPhone 17e, iPad 12, and MacBooks powered by the A18 Pro chip will also make use of MediaTek's wireless modules.
