According to IDC's "Top 10 Insights on China's Smartphone Market in 2026," released on December 8, China's smartphone market is poised to undergo a significant transformation in 2026. Driven by escalating costs of core components, annual shipments are projected to decline by 2.2% year-on-year, reaching 278 million units. To mitigate cost pressures, manufacturers are likely to strike a balance by either raising prices or trimming specifications, resulting in pronounced market segmentation. The high-end segment is expected to thrive on innovation, with its market share rising to 35.9%. Conversely, the low-end segment will bear the brunt of price fluctuations, with its share contracting to 20%. From a technological standpoint, shipments of next-generation AI smartphones are anticipated to surge to 147 million units, marking the first time they will constitute over half of the market. The integration of on-device and cloud-based AI capabilities will emerge as a pivotal service model. At the operating system level, a "three-pillar" landscape will take shape, encompassing Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS NEXT. Foldable smartphones will also witness a proliferation in form factors, with shipments projected to surpass 10 million units.
