Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation (also known as the Standardization Administration) has given its approval for the issuance of two compulsory national standards. These are the Real-Name Registration and Activation Requirements for Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (GB 46761—2025) and the Operational Identification Specifications for Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems (GB 46750—2025). Both standards are set to take effect officially on May 1, 2026.

The Real-Name Registration and Activation Requirements for Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicles outlines a clear workflow for the real-name registration and activation process of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It specifies the prerequisites for registration entities, management and inquiry procedures, cancellation guidelines, data exchange interfaces, and more. Crucially, it stipulates that UAVs must not take to the skies prior to activation or after deactivation.

Meanwhile, the Operational Identification Specifications for Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems mandates that UAVs must proactively transmit information such as their identity, location, speed, and operational status to the relevant regulatory authorities. This transmission must occur both at the startup phase and continuously throughout the entire flight duration.

Together, these two standards are poised to technically resolve the critical questions of 'who is authorized to fly' and 'who is currently flying' UAVs. They will provide robust support for the effective enforcement of the Interim Regulations on the Flight Management of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and pave the way for the safe and orderly growth of the UAV industry.
