Russia's sole operational aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, is set to be decommissioned and may face sale or dismantling in the future. During its decommissioning phase, functional equipment and machinery aboard the vessel will be removed for repurposing on other ships, while the hull will be prepared for extended storage. Prior to this, maintenance and modernization efforts on the aircraft carrier had been halted. The United Shipbuilding Corporation of Russia has announced that the ship, now over 40 years old, incurs prohibitively high maintenance costs and lacks repair viability.
