On September 28th, news emerged that CAS Space has recently entered into a strategic partnership with Guangzhou Laboratory. Their joint mission is to develop payloads specifically designed for space-based pharmaceutical manufacturing and to carry out scenario-based verification for drug production in the unique environment of space. The first set of payloads is scheduled to undergo suborbital flight verification in the first quarter of 2027, utilizing the LiHong-2 reusable launch vehicle. During this mission, experiments focusing on the crystallization of proteins and small-molecule drugs will be conducted, paving the way for subsequent long-term orbital experiments by establishing a solid technological foundation.
In this collaborative effort, Guangzhou Laboratory takes charge of formulating experimental protocols, preparing samples, and analyzing results. Meanwhile, CAS Space is responsible for tasks related to the space platform, including launch and return operations. Both parties work closely together in the engineering design of the payloads, ensuring a seamless integration of scientific expertise and aerospace technology.
