Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, has voiced his support for the ongoing restructuring and subsequent job cuts at Xbox, a process spearheaded by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Recently, Xbox disclosed an additional round of 268 job reductions, building upon the 1,600 positions that were eliminated earlier in the year. As part of this restructuring, several game studios have been merged, and there have been strategic adjustments to the development pipeline of intellectual property (IP) projects, including the iconic Halo series, leading to the departure of numerous developers.

Nadella emphasized the necessity of pursuing a rational and sustainable business model that strikes a balance between game publishing and platform services. Sharma highlighted that Xbox's profit margins currently lag significantly behind those of comparable platforms and game publishing ventures, being 3 to 10 times lower. Presently, around three-quarters of the planned job cuts have been executed, with further refinements anticipated before the fiscal year's conclusion.
