Following Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, Anexia, a leading European cloud service provider, announced the migration of 12,000 virtual machines from VMware to its proprietary open-source system built on the KVM virtual machine hypervisor. Since its inception in 2006, Anexia has delivered cloud services from over 100 locations globally, serving prestigious clients like Lufthansa and remote control software giant TeamViewer. The primary catalyst for this shift was the steep rise in license costs subsequent to Broadcom's takeover of VMware, which exerted substantial financial strain on Anexia. Alexander Windbichler, Anexia's CEO, remarked that despite the complexity of the migration process, the team successfully navigated the challenge, deeming it one of the company's most triumphant projects to date. This transition not only bolstered Anexia's financial position but also elevated its market competitiveness, causing significant waves in the cloud services industry.
