On October 15, 2026, Ericsson, the renowned Swedish telecommunications equipment giant, declared its intention to merge the Northeast Asia region with the Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India region, thereby forming a brand-new Asia-Pacific region. This strategic move is set to take effect from January 1, 2027. In a significant leadership reshuffle, Patrick Johansson, who currently spearheads the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) division, will helm the newly-formed Asia-Pacific region. Concurrently, Ericsson will embark on a recruitment drive to appoint a new head for the EMEA region.

As part of this comprehensive restructuring, Ericsson will also revamp the product lineup of its Enterprise Wireless Solutions business unit. Specifically, the Neutral Host and Ericsson 5G Private Networks segments will be amalgamated into the Network Business Unit. Meanwhile, the Wireless WAN segment will maintain its independent status and will report directly to the head of the Americas market region. This strategic realignment is designed to bolster R&D collaboration, expedite customer response times, and streamline cost structures, particularly in light of the global deceleration in 5G infrastructure deployment and the intensifying competitive landscape in 6G R&D.
