Tech giant Google announced earlier this week that its largest-ever solar and battery energy storage procurement plan has been implemented in Arkansas. The project, named the "Steel River Energy Center," is being advanced in partnership with Cypress Creek Energy. The first two phases of the project will add 1.6 GW of solar power generation and 1.9 GWh of battery energy storage, expected to meet approximately 6% of Arkansas's peak electricity demand. All three phases are scheduled to be operational by 2029, with a total capacity of 2.5 GW of solar power generation and 2.9 GWh of energy storage. Google will purchase the entire output from the first phase of the project to expand its use of clean energy and enhance grid stability.
