On Tuesday, the head of the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is set to disclose that the number of "highly significant" cyber incidents in the UK has soared by 50% compared to the same period last year. In recent times, prominent UK brands like Marks & Spencer, Co - op, and Jaguar Land Rover have all been ensnared in a spate of cyber attacks.
Based on data from the NCSC, during the 12 - month period up to August 2025, the centre stepped in to help manage 429 cyber incidents, 18 of which were classified as "highly significant". The number of the three most serious types of attack incidents skyrocketed to 204, doubling from the figure of the previous year. The NCSC is now strongly encouraging businesses to bolster their cybersecurity defences and formulate contingency plans to effectively respond to cyber attacks.
