Power Integrations, a niche manufacturer specializing in power supply chips, announced on Monday that it will collaborate with AI giant NVIDIA to develop technology for operating data centers at higher voltages. Earlier this year, NVIDIA launched a plan in partnership with over a dozen companies to switch the power supply method for large-scale AI data centers (which consume as much electricity as cities) from alternating current to 800-volt direct current, aiming to reduce power transmission losses.
