OpenAI has just released its first in-house developed chip, Jalapeño, named after the Mexican chili pepper, specifically designed for large model inference. In just nine months, the chip completed the development of engineering samples from scratch, successfully running models such as GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark, with both frequency and power consumption meeting mass production standards. Notably, the chip design process was assisted by OpenAI's own AI technology.
