On January 13, The New York Times in the United States reported that a trade pact between Taiwan and the US is on the cusp of being finalized. This agreement is expected to slash tariffs on Taiwanese goods exported to the US to 15%, bringing them in line with the tariff rates applied to products from Japan and South Korea.

In a parallel development, TSMC has made a firm commitment to channel investments into Arizona, where it will construct at least five more semiconductor factories. Drawing on sources with insider knowledge of the situation, The New York Times revealed that US tariffs on Taiwanese imports are set to decrease from 20% to 15%.

Tariff disputes had previously acted as a stumbling block in US-Taiwan economic and trade negotiations. In recent months, the Trump administration managed to secure only limited trade agreements with a select few countries.
