On November 19, 2025, news emerged that NIO's in-house developed 5nm high-end intelligent driving chip, named the "Shenji NX9031," has embarked on its journey of external technical supply. It is achieving this by granting technology licenses to an automotive chip firm. As per industry insiders, the contract values fluctuate based on the licensing approach. Fees for single intellectual property (IP) licensing generally fall within the range of several million dollars. In contrast, orders for system-level System on Chip (SoC) technology licensing can soar to the hundred-million-dollar mark. Both the Shenji NX9031 chip and its underlying software are the result of NIO's independent design efforts. This chip is packed with over 50 billion transistors and boasts a 32-core CPU architecture that incorporates both large and small cores, ensuring outstanding performance. A single Shenji NX9031 chip can deliver performance on par with that of four NVIDIA Orin-X chips.
