Adeia, a company specializing in intellectual property licensing, has recently initiated legal proceedings by filing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. The complaint alleges that AMD has unlawfully utilized numerous semiconductor innovation patents held by Adeia in its chip products. The scope of the lawsuit encompasses ten patents in total. Among them, seven pertain to hybrid bonding technology, which is a cutting-edge method for connecting different layers of a semiconductor device, and three involve advanced semiconductor process technologies that are crucial for enhancing the performance and efficiency of chips.
Adeia asserts that AMD has, for an extended period, depended on its patented technologies to attain commercial success in the highly competitive semiconductor market. Despite engaging in negotiations over the years, the two parties have failed to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution. Consequently, Adeia has opted to resort to legal means, demanding that AMD immediately halt the use of the relevant patented technologies. Additionally, Adeia is seeking appropriate compensation for the alleged infringement, which is in line with common practices in intellectual property disputes where the rightful owner seeks redress for unauthorized use of their innovations.
