On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, is partnering with a financier to raise up to $12 billion in additional capital to fuel its growth. This substantial influx of funds will primarily be allocated towards acquiring state-of-the-art chips from NVIDIA, which will subsequently be leased to xAI for the development of a massive data center. The objective of this data center is to train and operate the AI chatbot Grok. Prior to this latest funding round, xAI had already secured $10 billion through a combination of equity and debt financing. This new round of funding will undoubtedly bolster xAI's position in the competitive landscape of the AI arms race.
