At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), Alibaba's chip design unit, T-Head, unveiled that it would make its in-house AI software stack, T-Head SAIL (hereafter referred to as SAIL), available as open-source. SAIL functions as the foundational software for the Zhenwu AI chip, unlocking the chip's maximum computational potential. Developers worldwide can access SAIL's SDK packages, kernel drivers, performance analysis and debugging tools, as well as comprehensive technical documentation, through the T-Head Developer Community. Businesses can migrate with only slight code adjustments and tweaks, while companies can also engage in in-depth customization and optimization tailored to their unique requirements.

The SAIL software framework encompasses the entire OS layer, SDK layer, and interface layer, ensuring seamless integration with leading AI ecosystems. It is compatible with more than 260 widely-used training and inference frameworks, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, facilitating effortless business migration and the immediate deployment of popular models. To date, the Zhenwu AI chip has seen a cumulative shipment of 560,000 units, catering to over 400 clients spanning more than 20 sectors. T-Head has rolled out key data center chips, including the Zhenwu series AI chips and the Yitian series Arm server CPUs, marking a significant stride towards achieving full-stack, in-house development of computing, networking, and storage capabilities.
