According to The Decoder, Google DeepMind has assembled a 'task force' composed of researchers and engineers to enhance the programming capabilities of the Gemini model, striving to catch up with competitor Anthropic. The team is led by DeepMind engineer Sebastian Borgeaud, with Google co-founder Sergey Brin and DeepMind Chief Technology Officer Koray Kavukcuoglu directly involved in the initiative. Brin emphasized in an internal memo the need to narrow the gap in agent execution capabilities and to transform the model into a core developer of code. Google is leveraging its vast private codebase to train internal models, aiming to optimize internal development processes and enhance the performance of publicly available models.
