Hyundai Motor Group has set its sights on a monumental investment of 10 trillion won (equivalent to approximately RMB 48.12 billion) in the Saemangeum region of Gangwon Province, South Korea, over the forthcoming five-year period. This ambitious endeavor aims to establish cutting-edge centers dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), hydrogen energy, and robotics enterprises. This week, the group is poised to formalize its commitment by signing a memorandum of understanding with pertinent South Korean departments. This strategic move not only marks the official announcement of the investment plan but also seeks to garner robust support from both the South Korean government and local administrative bodies.
The group's strategic vision is centered around constructing three pivotal growth pillars in Saemangeum: AI, hydrogen energy, and robotics. To actualize this vision, a series of concrete initiatives are underway. These encompass the construction of an AI data center, state-of-the-art water electrolysis hydrogen production facilities, and advanced robotics manufacturing plants. Furthermore, the group is actively exploring the feasibility of setting up a solar power generation system to complement its sustainable energy goals.
In addition to these initiatives, the group is making significant strides in the construction of a robotics factory, with an investment running into billions of won. Notably, its humanoid robot Atlas, which made its debut at CES 2026, has captured widespread attention, underscoring the group's innovative prowess and commitment to shaping the future of robotics.
