On February 12 (local time), UN Secretary-General António Guterres released a statement confirming that the UN General Assembly had officially appointed 40 members to the newly formed ‘Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence,’ all of whom will serve a three-year term. Among the selected experts are two distinguished Chinese scientists: Song Haitao, Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Institute, and Wang Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a renowned expert in cloud computing technology. The panel members were carefully chosen from a pool of more than 2,600 candidates worldwide, following a rigorous and independent review process. The final selection reflects a diverse range of multidisciplinary backgrounds, with a strong emphasis on achieving both regional and gender balance.
