Apple's long-anticipated upgrade plan for Siri has encountered yet another hurdle, with problems emerging during the testing phase that could potentially result in delays for the rollout of several new features. Initially slated to make their debut with the iOS 26.4 system update in March, these new features are now being evaluated for distribution across subsequent updates. Some may be postponed to iOS 26.5 in May, or even further to iOS 27 in September.

Since unveiling its Siri upgrade plans in June 2024, Apple has encountered multiple setbacks, primarily due to issues with its self-developed AI model's insufficient capabilities. During testing, Siri reportedly experienced new problems, including inaccuracies in processing user queries and excessively long response times. The features most at risk of delay include the expansion of Siri's ability to access personal data and the integration of the "App Intents" system. Additional challenges have arisen concerning accuracy issues, frequent interruptions of users, and difficulties in invoking ChatGPT. Although Apple had initially considered leveraging ChatGPT to support the new Siri version, it ultimately opted for Google Gemini instead.

Previously, Apple's stock price faced downward pressure due to the sluggish progress in AI development. However, this year, it has outperformed most of its tech industry counterparts, buoyed by robust sales of the iPhone 17.
