On October 31, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, took to the X platform to announce that the upcoming GPT-6 would be rebranded as GPT-6-7, without providing a rationale for this alteration. As reported by Geek Park, Altman shed light on the latest advancements concerning GPT-6 during a recent 90-minute livestream session. He mentioned that OpenAI is currently prioritizing the resolution of system integration, interface, and intellectual property challenges, and has already made notable strides in these areas. Regarding the foundational models, GPT-5 has seen enhancements in its model prediction abilities. These improvements in application capabilities are expected to usher in a multitude of changes over the next two to five years. Consequently, when GPT-6 (now GPT-6-7) is unveiled, its exact nature will remain unpredictable; it could represent a groundbreaking leap akin to the transition from GPT-3 to GPT-5, or it might signify targeted upgrades in specific domains. This uncertainty necessitates meticulous internal planning, the establishment of guidelines, increased investment, and the formulation of detailed strategies at OpenAI. At present, it seems that GPT-6 (or GPT-6-7) is poised to be the next frontier for significant upgrades.
