Meta Platforms is set to cut approximately 600 jobs within its artificial intelligence division, specifically the 'Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Lab'. Initially, this lab boasted thousands of positions. The job cuts will impact the Facebook AI Research division, AI teams associated with product development, and teams responsible for AI infrastructure. However, the newly formed TBD lab will not be affected by these reductions. Meta's Chief AI Officer mentioned that these layoffs are aimed at streamlining decision-making processes and boosting the responsibility, functional scope, and overall impact of each remaining role.
