Meta has made the decision to cut roughly 600 jobs within its artificial intelligence division, specifically the Meta Superintelligence Lab (MSL). This move is part of its strategy to gain a competitive edge and accelerate its progress in the fiercely competitive AI landscape.
According to internal memos, the affected employees received notifications on Wednesday. In contrast, the newly formed TBD Lab team, which is composed of highly skilled and well-compensated professionals, was not impacted by these layoffs.
In the memo, Meta's Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, explained that reducing the team size is a strategic step. It is expected to streamline the communication channels for decision-making. With a leaner team, each member will be able to shoulder more responsibilities and make a more significant contribution to the company's AI endeavors.
